Hoarding disorder- from your television to the DSM

I saw the show Hoarders for the first time this July. It was horrifying, not just because we were watching a woman shove too many chickens into cramped cages filled with poo while we were eating our dinner. Hoarding, many watchers would say, is a serious mental illness.

The American Psychological Association agrees. For the first time, it's being recognized as its own separate diagnosis.

Here are some other changes coming up in the new DSM on the horizon. There will be changes to Asperger's syndrome and the addition of binge-eating and hypersexual disorders. To my fellow psych geeks out there who love to follow this, you're welcome.
