Free Admission on National Museum Day

Some of us look forward to this event all year round but for those of you not yet in the know: gain free admission to some of the best museums in the country on National Museum Day. This year, the event is on Saturday, September 29. Select museums that are normally closed on Saturdays will have the event on Sunday, September 30. The event is hosted by Smithsonian magazine.

Smithsonian Institution buildingResidents of and living near the District of Columbia are lucky enough to enjoy a plethora of free museums. Even in the nation's capital, however, some of the most enjoyable museums still require a hefty price for a ticket. National Museum Day allows for free admission to museums that normally charge such as Museum of Crime and Punishment, Newseum, and many art museums.

Those who don't live near DC can still enjoy the event; it's nation-wide. Check here for a listing of all participating museums near you.

Make sure to sign up for tickets before heading to your museum of choice; you will need to bring a copy of your online ticket to gain entrance. Each ticket allows entry for two people. There is a limit of one ticket per household so make sure that your friends and family sign up as well.
